Overcoming Depression!

Hey lovelies! 💞

Happy New Month!!!

Hope y’all are doing great!

May this month of love bring to us all good surprises, favour on all sides in Jesus name. 🙏

I’ll be sharing a few things I read on Depression” and “how to overcome it” in this post.

I hope it blesses and helps someone out of that depressed state.

Life is tricky. It’s like a constant puzzle that you have to solve. It’s like a book that has constant plot twists and turns. It’s scary, complicated, messy, but is a poetically written version of your life.

Almost everyone at one time or another experiences a period of sadness. Some get over it with a little time, but for some people, the sadness continues.

It might be difficult for some people to understand what depression is if they have never experienced anxiety or depression, but it’s nearly impossible not to have had a time of depression and sadness.

Depression according to the English dictionary (psychology) is a period of unhappiness or low morale which lasts longer than several weeks and may include ideation of self-inflicted injury or suicide.

A depressed mood is a normal temporary reaction to life events such as loss of a loved one, amongst other causes.

It could also be caused by some physical diseases and a side effect of some drugs and medical treatments.

Being in a prolonged period or state of sadness, one or more of these signs are often accompanied with depression.

  • Inability to sleep or oversleeping
  • A growing distrust for God.
  • Fatigue
  • Lack of appetite (or overeating -this is often rear).
  • Resentment towards others.
  • Inactivity
  • Worrying, hopelessness, complaining, doubting and more.

  1. Get in a routine: If you’re depressed, you need a routine. Depression can strip away the structure from your life. One day melts into the next. Setting a gentle daily schedule can help you get back on track.
  2. Set goals: When you’re depressed, you may feel like you can’t accomplish anything. That makes you feel worse about yourself. To push back, set daily goals for yourself. Make your goals something that you can succeed at. As you start to feel better, you can add more challenging daily goals.
  3. ExerciseIt temporarily boosts feel-good chemicals called endorphins. It also has a long-term benefit for people with depression. Regular exercise encourages the brain to rewire itself in positive ways. How much exercise do you need? You don’t need to run marathons to get a benefit. Just walking a few times a week can help.
  4. Eat healthy: There is no magic diet that fixes depression. It’s a good idea to watch what you eat, though. If depression tends to make you overeat, getting in control of your eating will help you feel better.Although nothing is definitive, Cook says there’s evidence that foods with omega-3 fatty acids (such as salmon and tuna) and foliic acid (such as spinach and avocado) could help ease depression.
  5. Get enough sleep: Depression can make it hard to get enough shut eye, and too little sleep can make depression worse. What can you do? Start by making some changes to your lifestyle. Go to bed and get up at the same time every day. Try not to nap. Take all the distractions out of your bedroom — no computer and no TV. In time, you may find your sleep improves.
  6. Challenge negative thoughts: In your fight against depression, a lot of the work is mental — changing how you think. When you’re depressed, you leap to the worst possible conclusions. The next time you’re feeling terrible about yourself, use logic as a natural depression treatment.
  7. Do something new: Push yourself to do something new.  When we challenge ourselves to do something different, there are chemical changes in the brain.Trying something new especially what you love brings pleasure and fun.
  8. Try to have fun: If you’re depressed, make time for things you enjoy. What if nothing seems fun anymore? “That’s just a symptom of depression,”. You have to keep trying anyway.

God is the author of our lives, he writes the book and finishes it, chapter by chapter. Make sure you are working in line with what He has written about you.

Thanks for coming around.

Until next time,

Have a great week ahead!

  1. Thank you for this post!
You mentioned nutrition in your post, and if I may, I’d like to offer some input. Have you studied the gut-brain connection? The gut is responsible for making 80% of seratonin and 60% of dopamine, as well as its own neurotransmitters. It communicates with the brain unceasingly.
In my studies, depression (and anxiety) are caused primarily by two things: inflammation and nutrient deficiencies.
The fact is, we can actually pinpoint what we are lacking (or fighting, such as leaky gut), and We don’t have to feel hopeless!

Please check out my blog (http://the-natural-experiences.com) and my fb page (https://facebook.com/Thenaturalexperiences/) if you would like to read more about the gut-brain connection. Best wishes!
