Secrets You Didn’t Know about Some fruits..#2

Yaayyy! It’s another weekend!!

Welcome to another edition of“Secrets you didn’t know about some fruits”. Today, I will be sharing some nutritional health benefits of “Tiger Nuts”.

My love for Tiger nut is 💯

Tiger nuts are not really nuts like we all think. They are tubers that grow under the soil’s surface. They are also known as yellow nutsedge, or Earth almond.

They are found in most of the Eastern Hemisphere, including Southern Europe, Africa and Madagascar, as well as the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent.

In some parts of Africa, Nigeria to be precised, they are known as Aki Awusa/Imumu in Igbo, Aya in Hausa and Ofio in Yoruba.

PS: Tiger nut has lots of great health benefits. They are full of nutrients and vitamins and they fight lots of disorders.

Nutritional benefits

  1. They have a high Fiber content which the body needs to stay healthy.
  2. They are a Healthy Substitute For Lactose Intolerance.

PS: Tiger nut milk is a healthy option for those who cannot drink cow’s milk due to lactose intolerance. Its milk contains highest nutrition and fat content.

3. Rich In Vitamins E and C.

4. Protects Against Cardiovascular Disease

5. Cures Erectile Dysfunction

6. Controls Diabetes

The nut flour present in them regulates blood sugar levels and helps diabetic patients remain health.

7.Aids proper digestion and they are remedies for flatulence, stomach upsets and diarrhea. And prevents constipation.

8. It contains enough protein and carbohydrates which the body requires.

NB: People often ask if the Tiger nut’s shaft is healthy and edible! Yes! the shaft is edible and one can consume it because it is highly rich in Fiber.

So I’m going to write a post on how to make Tiger nut juice/milk soon.

Stay informed and live healthy. 😉

Have a wonderful week ahead!

With ❤,

Dammie O.
